The South African national flag has been removed from the Israeli city of Rishon LeZion in protest over the southern African country’s lawsuit against Israeli genocide at the International Court of Justice.
The removal of the flag is a sign of protest from the Israelis over South Africa’s win over Israel in the case against genocide in Gaza, which has resulted in the ICJ ordering Israel to halt its attacks on Gaza.
The protest is captured in a video posted on X, in which two men on a crane, removing the South African flag before throwing it to the ground.
In its ICJ application, South Africa had requested for the indication of provisional measures in which, after oral presentations from both Israel and South Africa, the world justice body ordered Israel to stop and prevent any further attacks on Gaza.
“That Israel shall take immediate and effective measures to allow basic services and humanitarian assistance to Gaza. Israel shall submit a report on all measures taken to give effect to the ICJ order within one month,” the ICJ ordered.
