The man who made headlines after assaulting the Deputy Minister of Tourism and Hospitality, Honourable Tongai Mafidi Mnangagwa, has been taken to court.

Munyaradzi Antony Mwedziwendira, 30, of number 2 Dava Place, corner 7th and Selous Avenue, Harare, appeared before magistrate Apolonia Marutya at the Harare Magistrates' Courts accused assault.

He pleaded guilty to the assault, he will appear on February 5 for sentencing.

The complainant in this matter is Wellington Vengesai, 43, of number 7 Trud Mansions, Harare.

The State, through prosecutor Thomas Chanakira, alleges that on January 30, 2024, around 2215 hours at number 6 Trud Mansions, corner 6th Street and Fife Avenue, Harare Vengesai, who was with Honourable Mnangagwa and Handson Gapa, walked out of his apartment and accompanied Mnangwagwa to his car, which was parked outside after attending a celebration party held at Vengesai’s premises.

It is alleged that on the way to the parking lot, Vengesai came across Mwedziwendira, who was talking on top of his voice, complaining that Vengesai and his team had blocked his cars.

Mwedziwendira allegedly charged towards Honourable Mnangagwa, whom he held by the collar before turning and charging towards Vengesai.

Mwedziwendira held the complainant by his beard using both his hands and asked why Vengesai was not shaving.

He allegedly went on to say that if the complainants were to make fun of him, he was going to shoot them although he did not produce any firearm.

Vengesai pushed Mwedziwendira away and at that time, Mwedziwendira went on to try and restrain Gapa, who overpowered him.

Mwedziwendira allegedly started shouting “hamuna zvamunondiita hamumbondibvisi pano,” (you cannot do anything to me).
