Former Zengeza West legislator, Job Sikhala, has been found guilty of publishing falsehoods prejudicial to the State.
Sikhala appeared before magistrate Feresi Chakanyuka on January 24, on the charge of communicating falsehoods in July 2020.
Chakanyuka, in delivering her sentence, said the child that was claimed to have died the video posted, was still alive as opposed to what is claimed in the video.
“The court is convinced that the accused is the owner of the Facebook page,” reads part of the judgement.
The politician was released from Chikurubi Maximum Prison on January 30, 2024, after spending 595 days in pre-trial detention.
Sikhala was arrested on June 14, 2022, over a charge of inciting public violence.
This followed violence that erupted in Nyatsime at the memorial of the slain Citizens Coalition for Change activist, Moreblessing Ali, who went missing in May 2022.
Ali’s body was later found chopped and stuffed in a sack that was found in a well.
Chakanyuka said since the accused person was out of custody, he will come to court at 8:30am on Monday for mitigation
