Immigration authorities in Zambia detained 342 illegal immigrants during clean-up operations conducted in various parts of the country recently, a spokesperson said Tuesday.
Namati Nshinka, a spokesperson for the Department of Immigration, said the arrests of illegal immigrants from different countries were made on February 9-19 for various alleged immigration offences.
The spokesperson said in a statement that authorities also deported 268 illegal immigrants during the same period, while 15 foreigners were denied entry into the country for failing to meet entry requirements.
He added that during the same period, about 121 illegal immigrants were sentenced in different parts of the country after being found guilty of violating the country’s immigration laws. - Xinhua
