Karoi man arrested over raw ivory

A 49-year-old man was arrested in Karoi, by detectives from the CID Minerals Flora and Fauna department for unlawfully possessing raw ivory.

Elias Reza from Dzokamushure Village was arrested after the detectives received a tip-off.

“The detectives proceeded to the suspect’s place of residence posing as potential buyers. The suspect took unmarked raw ivory from a hut and was subsequently arrested,” police confirmed.

Meanwhile, a 19-year-old foreign national, Antony Mcmullen was arrested on Saturday at Kuwadzana 2 shopping Centre accused of two cases of assault.

Police confirmed the arrest.

“The ZRP confirms the arrest of foreign national, Antony Mcmullen, 19, for two cases of assault which occurred on 23/02/24 in which he punched two complainants at Kuwadzana 2 Shopping Centre on the pretext that one of the complainant’s motor vehicle had bumped onto a motor vehicle in which the suspect was a passenger.”

In a sad note, police in Zengeza 5, Chitungwiza reports the death of a year-old female in which she allegedly pushed a gas stove, which had a pot with boiling water on Tuesday while her mother was doing household chores.

“The pot fell on the victim. She sustained serious burn injuries. The victim later succumbed to the injuries on admission at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital,” police said.
