South Africa-based Zimbabwean female pugilist Monica Mkandla on Thursday recorded her fifth victory on the trot when she beat South Africa’s Sazisiwe Simon in a super-bantamweight contest over four rounds. The match was fought at the Gallery Sandton in Johannesburg as an undercard.
Mkandla had her pro-debut at Phil-Jen Country Lodges, Chivhu, in August this year when she faced and won by a unanimous points decision a match against Sasha Mambo. She then went on to post three more victories within three months in SA . Her casualties were Mitchell Mubaya, Nomusa Ngema and, (Sazisiwe) Simon.
Currently, and at 23, Mkandla has a world rating of 97 out of 169 super-bantamweights. It is the same division in which WBC champion Kudakwashe Chiwandire belongs.
In the Thursday debacle, she was fighting on the revived ESPN Africa Boxing series which is hosted in partnership with FightBox. One of the greatest new boxing franchises, the series has continued to expand and gain fame within the continent.
According to the organisors of the returnee boxing show,

The main drawcard was the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Jnr Bantamweight title featuring Sikho Nqothole (SA) and Quibido Denmark of the Philipines.
