A police officer died in Chegutu after two men stabbed him on the arm and stole his Techno mobile handset.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe detailed the murder of Elisha Munengerwa on X:
“The accused persons followed Munengerwa from Eddy's Kite bar in Chegutu to Gadzema bus terminus until he passed West end shops,” said the NPAZ.
The pair fled from the scene, leaving the fatally injured Munengerwa behind a Gomo Tuckshop.
“A witness who was sleeping in the tuckshop heard the now-deceased groaning, made an enquiry and found the now-deceased battling for life. He made a report to the police who attended the scene.”
Munengerwa was pronounce dead on arrival at Chegutu Hospital.
NPAZ said one of the suspects, Tinotenda Chipadze, 22, was arrested after he sold the stolen mobile handset.
He has since appeared in the Chegutu Magistrates’ Court facing murder charges and was remanded to March 7, 2024.
The alleged accomplice Enock is still at large.
