3 cops up for armed robbery

Three police officers have been taken to court for robbery.

Jonathan Taurai Dhokwani, 34, Unit N, Chitungwiza, Isaac Chako, of Glen View and Gift Pfirwe, 37, facing robbery allegations.

They were remanded to May 17 and were ordered to apply for bail at the High Court.

The State alleges that on April 20, at around 0930 hours, the three accused, who are members of Zimbabwe Republic Police, together with their accomplices John Kapfunye, Godknows Shelton Mukuruzoda, Vincent Magadhi already arrested, John Mafigu and Takesure Magunje wanted to rob the complainants, Tendai Chinhoro and Blessed Kamala, who are employed by Veterinary Distributors Company as auditors.

Chinhoro and Kamala were using a company white Mazda BT50 which was being driven by Kapfunye employed by same company as a driver and who had been assigned by his superiors to ferry the complainants to Borrowdale and Westgate where they collected company money.

When they reached the Harare Drive and Ashdown Drive intersection in Harare, Kapfunye slowed down to give way to a Toyota Passo vehicle without registration plates being driven by the accused and their accomplices.

The accused and their accomplices, who were wearing police uniforms, produced two pistols and pointed them at the two complainants, demanding cash.

They also assaulted the two complainants with open hands several times on their faces and stole US$22 000.

The accused then disappeared from the scene.
