An employee of Yellowcob Enterprises, T/A Spar Retail, has been sentenced to 10 months effective for stealing more than US$16 000 from the company.
Godswill Muzilikazi, 40, of Epworth, appeared before magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with theft.
He was sentenced to 25 months imprison, five of which were suspended for five years, another 10 months for restitution, leaving an effective 10 months in prison.
The complainant in this matter is Yellowcob Enterprises, T/A Spar Retail.
The State, through prosecutor Bonface Musvaire, alleges that on September 2022, at around 1156 hours, Muzikikazi was given US$16 357 for safekeeping.
He allegedly locked the money in a safe and went away.
During closing hours, at around 2030 hours, Muzikikazi took advantage of other employees’ absence and allegedly stole the US$16 357 he had locked in the safe.
The offence was discovered the following morning and a report was filed at Highlands Police Station, leading to the Muzikikazi’s arrest following footage that was captured on CCTV.
