A man from New Tafara in Harare, who was part of a team that allegedly went and started firing shots at a complainant’s bedroom in order to rob him, has been denied bail.

Norest Magede, 43, appeared before magistrate Fadzai Mutombeni charged with robbery.

The will appear in court on March 23.

The State, through prosecutor Ephraim Zinyandu, alleges that on August 12, 2023, the complainant was asleep with his wife when five accused persons armed with a 303 rifle and blank pistols broke the dining room door to enter in the house.

They allegedly confronted the complainant’s mother, who was sleeping in the dining room and demanded money, threatening to shoot her.

The State alleges that they searched the whole dining room and stole a K-Gtel phone.

The complainant heard noise from the accused and locked his bedroom door from inside.

They allegedly attempted to break the bedroom door but failed. They went outside the house and started firing shots towards the complainant's bedroom window, demanding money.

The complainant’s wife took US$2 500 and gave it to them through the window.

The accused persons demanded more money and the complainant gave them US$3 000 and they went away.
