The Judicial Service Commission is seeking qualified candidates to fill 10 vacant positions for Judge in the High Court.
As outlined in Section 179 of the Constitution, applicants must be at least 40 years old with experience as a judge in a similar common law jurisdiction (Roman-Dutch or English legal system), or be qualified to practice law for at least seven years in Zimbabwe, a Roman-Dutch/English legal system country, or (for Zimbabwean citizens) an English common law country.
Candidates must be currently qualified legal practitioners. One must also be deemed a “fit and proper person” to hold the position (referencing Section 179(2) of the Constitution).
Candidates must also submit a medical report verifying mental and physical fitness for the demanding role. Full disclosure of all relevant information is mandatory. Failure to do so will result in disqualification, according to the JSC.
Members of the public intending to nominate candidates can obtain nomination forms from the office of the Secretary, Judicial Service Commission at JSC House, No 161 Josiah Chinamano Avenue, corner Josiah Chinamano Avenue and Seventh Street, HARARE.
The candidates can also obtain forms from the office of Provincial Magistrate in charge of the province at Harare, Bulawayo, Masvingo, Bindura, Chinhoyi, Mutare, Gwanda, Marondera, Hwange and Gweru.
