The National Democratic Working Group has launched Operation Vhuserere/Imvuselelo, which calls on everyone to be a carrier and preacher of the message of the people’s programme to return the mass democratic struggle to its owners, who are the people.

This comes as the NDWG has begun consultative meetings that are aimed at making the masses and the people of Zimbabwe take their position at the centre of the struggle.

In a statement, the NDWG said the mass democratic struggle belongs to the people, “and the people must be at the centre of every decision in the execution of our struggle.”

The NDWG was born out of a realisation that previous pro-democracy movements had departed from the founding transformative objectives and collective thought that shaped them in the first place.

One of the major deficiencies, the NDWG notes, was the exclusion of the masses. “…our struggle had been derailed through the exclusion of our people in crucial decision-making processes in the prosecution of the struggle”, reads the statement in part, hence the movement’s resolution that “Every decision in the prosecution of the struggle shall come from the masses of our people.

Dr Wurayayi Zembe

In an interview with Zim Now, NDWG head of Political Affairs, Dr Wurayayi Zembe, said potential answers to Zimbabwe’s challenges will come from the assemblage of citizens and these will be interrogated by all stakeholders at the National Democratic People’s Consultative Convention.

“The people must own the ideas because they belong to them. It is the people that will decide what should happen next,” he said.

The NDWG was birthed at the release of former Zengeza West legislator, Job Sikhala, who had spent close to two years in remand prison. He was named NDWG facilitator.
