A man who allegedly participated in an armed robbery case involving property worth over US$144 800 has appeared in court

Augustine Zvenyika, 32, of Epworth, appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with armed robbery.

He was remanded custody and was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

The State alleges that on November 26, 2023, at around 0200 hours, the accused person and his accomplices Raphael Chamangwana, Onward Mukwiza, Patson Magore, Elton Chichoka, Danmore Kasemba, who are already on remand and two other accused, who are still at large, went to the complainant’s house in Dema armed with four pistols.

The State alleges that when they arrived, they handcuffed the complainant’s security guard before breaking into the house and waking up the complainant.

They allegedly started assaulting him and his wife, demanding money.

They were given a purse which had US$800 and they started searching the house.

It is alleged that they stole various items, a Taurus revolver and a Huawei phone belonging to one Alfred Tendai Mapazo.

They allegedly stole a Toyota Land Cruiser and a Jeep Cherokee and used them as gateaway cars.

The complainant later filed a police report at ZRP and on January 4, the police recovered a Huawei phone, one Golden Wind Clock, two candle stands, one washing basket, one wedding ring, three pillow cases, one drying towel two ceramic food tins and one bread bin from Zvenyika’s accomplices who then implicated him.

On March 16, Zvenyika was arrested.

As a result, US$144 800 worth of property was stolen.
