The wife of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, Marry Mubaiwa, who has been in and out of court in the past two years, has been acquitted on charges of assaulting her domestic worker.

Mubaiwa had, through her lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa, applied for discharge at the close of the State’s case, arguing that witnesses who testified had many versions of what transpired on the day, making the evidence unreliable.

Harare magistrate Learnmore Mapiye, in her judgement said Mtetwa’s application for discharge had merit, thereby acquitting Mubaiwa.

The State’s case was that on January 28, 2020, Munyoro went to Helenic Primary School in Borrowdale to collect Mubaiwa’s son whom she had with Chiwenga.

It is said Munyoro remained in the car while the driver Batsirai Furukiya went to collect the child.

It is alleged that while Furukiya was walking towards the car with the child, Mubaiwa followed him.

It is alleged that when they got to the car, Mubaiwa started accusing Munyoro of telling her children not to talk to her.

It is alleged that Munyoro remained in the car and Mubaiwa allegedly struck her with the back of her left hand, leaving her with a cut on her mouth and with a shaking tooth.

Mubaiwa still has other charges pending including attempted murder and serious financial crimes.
