Play Handball Zimbabwe utilised the power of sport to educate young people on critical issues during the first edition of the Super Cup Play Handball Zimbabwe held last Friday at Highfield High 1 School.
Sixteen teams, consisting of eight each for boys and girls, competed in the tournament. The event was bolstered by the presence of counsellors from Childline, Zimbabwe’s leading organisation for youth empowerment and protection.
Innocent Kanosvova, a coach for the Tigers team and a member of Play Handball, highlighted the educational significance of the tournament in an interview with Zim Now.
“The tournament went well,” he said. “We used handball as a tool to facilitate and educate on environmental awareness and drug abuse.”
Kanosvova emphasised that Play Handball goes beyond the game itself. “Handball is the tool to empower the youth, teach life skills, promote education and create opportunities for social growth for the individuals in the community,” he explained.
The winning teams were presented with handball kits, while individual players received trophies, medals, and certificates.
