A man, who was part of a team that allegedly kidnapped the complainants and later dumped them at Harare Central Police Station, has been taken to court.
Tafadzwa Chidawa, 35, of Warren Park, appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with kidnapping.
They will appear in court for bail application.
The State alleges that on March 5 Chidawa and his five accomplices, who are still at large, contacted one Gandiya Sallom, claiming to be a cousin to Sallom’s boyfriend.
It is alleged that the accused invited Sallom to Caledon Shops along Seke Road and Sallom then hired a taxi driven by one Watson.
Upon arrival, at Caledon Shops they were approached by Chidawa and his team, who introduced themselves as police detectives from Harare Central Police Station.
They allegedly told the two complainants that they had been arrested.
The court heard that they accused Sallom of faking pregnancy to her boyfriend.
They allegedly handcuffed Sallom. They then used violence to the complainants, dragging them into their car, a Toyota Prado and drove to Mutare Road.
The State alleges that Sallom then called her lawyer, telling him that she had been kidnapped.
After hearing the conversation, they allegedly drove back to Harare CBD and dumped them at the Central Police Station.
The complainants reported the matter, leading to the arrest of the accused.
