A-26-year old man of no fixed abode was sentenced to 30 years imprisonment by the Kadoma Magistrates’ Courts for three counts of rape.
It is alleged on July 30, 2023 at 0800 hours, the complainant, 26, was walking with her mother-in-law when she decided to turn and drink water at a nearby borehole.
The National Prosecuting Authority said her mother-in-law continued walking, leaving her behind.
The complainant met the accused person as she continued her journey, trying to catch up with her mother-in- law.
“She asked for directions from the accused person who advised her to continue on the same way. She later noticed the accused person following her and tried to run away but he dragged her to a nearby bush where he tore her clothes and raped her once without protection.
"After raping the complainant, the accused person tied her on a tree using her doek and belt. He later untied her when he saw that she was struggling to breath.
“At around midday, the accused person dragged her to another place nearby and raped her again without protection around 1900 hours. He later offered to accompany her on her journey. The complainant was rescued by a man who heard her scream,” the NPA said.
The matter was reported to the police, leading to the arrest of the accused person.
He was sentenced to 15 years for each count. Count 1 and 2 will run concurrently, implying that he will serve 30 years effectively.
