Mutasa Rural District chief executive officer George Tonderai Bandure, 50, who is facing criminal abuse of office, has applied for discharge at the close of the State case.
The State alleges that sometime in 2020, the accused person solicited for a bribe from a private property developer in Penhalonga in exchange for approving a housing project.
He reportedly threatened to hinder or prevent the smooth flow of their housing project if they failed to give in to his demands.
“The land developer gave in to his demands and offered him a residential stand in a law density area, measuring 642 square metres valued at US$9 630.
“The accused person proceeded to process ownership of the residential stand by registering on the Mutasa RDC waiting list and executing a lease agreement with Mutasa RDC,” reads the statement.
He was arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission following a tip-off from a whistleblower.
The ruling on the application of disacharge is expected today.
