A Harare man says that his two younger children are unregistered because his name change intention was derailed by Covid-19 disruptions.
“I will deal with the issue of birth certificates, l was in the process of changing the surname so l was affected by the pandemic,” McDonald Chimbuya told the Harare Civil Court where his ex-wife Chidike Tambudzai was suing him for maintenance for their three children.
“Two of the children do not have birth certificates as a result they have to go to private schools that are not close to where we live,” Tambudzai told the court.
She asked for the court to make Chimbuya contribute towards the upkeep of the couple’s three children aged 13, 11 and 6, as well as help clear arrears for the one in grade seven.
Tambudzai asked for ZWL 50 000 and said that she could not send her child to a government school as that would mean putting said child in the custody of the stepmother.
Application for maintenance was granted with the court ordering Chimbuya to pay ZWL 50,000.
