The Judicial Services Commission on Wednesday concluded public interviews for vacancies of judges at the High Court of Zimbabwe and the Administrative Court, with male candidates dominating the list of interviewees.

For the High Court vacancies, 36 candidates, of which eight were women, were interviewed for the 10 vacancies. The rest were male.

For the vacancies at the Administrative Court, three candidates - two male and one female - were interviewed.

In his closing remarks at the end of the interviews in Harare on Thursday, Chief Justice Luke Malaba said that the JSC will deliberate on a short list that will be submitted to the President, as per constitutional requirements.

He, however revealed that the process that follows the public interviews is confidential.

Justice Malaba expressed gratitude to stakeholders who were part of the process.

“It is now up to the Commissioners to retire and deliberate on the results of the interviews. Hopefully, the Commission will be able to produce the list required by the Constitution for the President to make the necessary appointments in due course. The Commission takes the opportunity to thank all the members of the public who took part in various ways in the interviews over the period in question.

“… therefore from now on, the proceedings to follow are confidential and the public interview proceedings have now therefore come to a close,” said Chief Justice Malaba.
