A man from Glen View, Harare, who claimed that he constructed security walls and would disappear soon after receiving payment without completing the work, has been taken to court.

Clayton Padya, 24, appeared in court accused of fraud and was ordered to deposit US$50 as bail and will appear in court on June 13.

The State alleges that in April, Padya advertised on Tilda live WhatsApp platform that he constructed security walls.

The complainant, Leeroy Chivhanga, got interested in the deal and contacted Padya through WhatsApp.

It is alleged that Padya lied to Chivhanga that if he paid a deposit of US$738, he would start working the following day.

Chivhanga then deposited US$738 through Western Union into an account he was given by Padya but was registered in someone’s name.

The court heard that Padya never did any job at the complainant’s stand and the complainant discovered that he had been duped.

The court was also informed that sometime in November 2023, Padya advertised on Facebook that he was a security wall constructor.

The complainant, Nigel Nyatsambo, contacted him through his WhatsApp.

Nyatsambo allegedly paid Padya a ttal of US$1 460 on different occasions and he received receipts as proof of payment.

It is alleged that Padya went and took measurements of the wall before digging only holes for six poles at the stand before disappearing.

The complainant tried to contact him but he was evasive.
