UZ Wildcats HC snatched victory from Manyame Falcons HC after scoring 17 to 16.
Bulawayo Poly took the third place while City Stars came fourth in the women’s category.
On the men’s teams, Manyame Falcons HC emerged the first runner-up while Manyame Eagles HC and Ajax HC came third and fourth, respectively.
The annual tournament, which kicked off with 14 men’s teams and 12 women’s teams turned out to be an electrifying display of athleticism and sportsmanship.
In an interview with Zim Now, Zimbabwe Handball senior men assistant coach, Malvern Farai Mukundu said the tournament showed great improvement in the development of handball in the country.
“I was quite impressed with the level of competition that the teams showed. I can say that the teams are showing great improvement, which is a good thing for our sport such that we can start competing at the highest level regionally.
“I would like to thank tournament organisers for a job well done because it’s not easy to host so many teams in a very short period of time.”
Lucky Mangweka, a handball expert, said the tournament shows that most of the ladies’ teams are improving.
He added that most players who showed up for the tournament were the young blood.
“Most of them were the under 18s, including Tanatswa Mapolisa, who was part of the youths team which played in the Zimbabwean team Zone VI.”
He praised the coaches for developing handball from the grassroots and also, for focusing on the ladies’ teams, too.
