A 34-year-old Beitbridge man appeared before the Beitbridge Magistrates’ Court on allegations of statutory rape.
The State alleges that sometime in March 2024, the accused person proposed love to the complainant, who is 15 years old, and she accepted.
Later on in the same month, the accused took the complainant to a bushy area where he had sex with her.
After the act, he took the minor to his uncle’s residence and introduced her to his uncle as his wife-to-be and left her there.
She stayed at the accused person’s uncle’s place of residence for three days, after which the complainant’s sister-in-law came and took her home.
On May 26, 2025, the complainant’s sister-in-law took her to the police where she revealed that she had sex with the accused person, leading his arrest.
The complainant was taken to Beitbridge District Hospital, where she was medically examined.
The accused person was remanded to June 10, 2024.
