Botswana sentences four Zimbabwean nationals sentenced to life imprisonment for murder

Four Zimbabweans were sentenced to life imprisonment by the Mahwelereng Regional court on Thursday, November 03 for the murder of a 22-year-Botswana old man.

The court convicted Khulekani Dube 24, Saviors Mbedzi 23, Vusi Ncube 21, and Agreement Tlou 24, of stabbing Peter Keetsi in Mahwelereng on 31 August 2019.

The State’s case is that the deceased was walking from the local tavern in Pholar Park when the accused met him at about 00h30 and stabbed him several times.

The victim was taken to Mokopane hospital. The suspects were tracked down and arrested on a farm in Lephalale the following month.

A case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) was filed.

This was changed to murder after the victim succumbed to the stabbing injuries while in hospital.

An additional charge of Contravention of the Immigration Act was added after it was revealed that the suspects were in the country illegally.

After due trial process all four were found guilty of both charges and each sentenced to life imprisonment for murder plus two years’ imprisonment or a fine of R5 000.00 for Contravention of the Immigration Act.
