A prophet who took advantage of a woman’s vulnerability, claiming he could remove evil spirits through sex with her, has been taken to court.
Joseph Mweya, 35, of Old Tafara appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with aggravated indecent assault.
He will appear in court on July 3.
The State alleges that from March 2024 to May 2024, Mweya held prayer sessions for the complainant, a 19-year-old woman.
The court heard that he then forced the woman to have sex with him, claiming this was a way of removing evil spirits.
It is alleged that Mweya kept calling the complainant that she was being haunted by evil spirits, eventually forcing her to have sex with her on several times.
