Zimbabwe is bracing for a cold spell set to commence today and persist until Wednesday, with temperatures plummeting to as low as three degrees Celsius in the morning.
The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) issued a notice warning of drizzle, cloud cover, and gusty winds across various regions.
Anticipating a significant rise in wind pressure over the southeast coast of southern Africa, the MSD predicts a cold and moist south-easterly airflow to sweep into Zimbabwe. Prior to the arrival of clouds, a cold and relatively dry southerly airflow is expected on Friday, with moderate ground frost and morning temperatures dipping below three degrees Celsius in frost-prone areas such as Matopos, Gweru, Lupane, Masvingo, Marondera, and Nyanga.
From Saturday onwards, Matabeleland South, Masvingo, and Manicaland Provinces are forecasted to experience cloudy, windy, and cold conditions throughout the day, accompanied by light rain and drizzle in certain areas. These weather patterns are projected to extend to other regions, including Bulawayo Metropolitan, southern parts of Matabeleland North and Midlands, Harare, and Mashonaland East Provinces by Sunday.
The Met Department anticipates a slight warming trend by Wednesday as clouds dissipate. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to mitigate the effects of the impending cold weather.
