One person died while seven others were injured when a bus carrying 66 passengers collided with a train along Lytton Road in Harare yesterday morning.
In a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police said the accident occurred at a railway-level crossing at the intersection of Paisley Road and Lyton Road, Harare at around 4:30 AM.
"Drivers are urged to stop at every railway level crossing and give way to any oncoming train.
"The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred at a railway level crossing at the intersection of Paisley Road and Lyton Road, Harare on 25/06/24 at around 0430 hrs.
"An AVM bus with 66 passengers on board was hit by a train after the bus driver failed to stop at the railway crossing. Subsequently, one person died on the spot and seven others were injured," police said.
The National Railways of Zimbabwe also confirmed the accident.
"One person died on the spot while several others suffered various degrees of injuries after a bus was hit by a train at the Paisley level crossing in Workington, Harare, in the wee hours of today. Preliminary inquiries indicate that the driver of the bus failed to stop at the level crossing, resulting in the accident.
“The NRZ family expresses its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased person and wishes speedy recovery to the injured.”
