A 20 year old man from Chief Mutambara area in Chimanimani will spend 420 hours serving the community after deciding that a Grade 7 pupil was ripe for his sexual advances.
The man appeared before a Chipinge Magistrate this week facing charges of having sexual intercourse with a young person.
The National Prosecution Authority of Zimbabwe laid out that in 2023 the accused person approached the complainant, 14, who was a grade 7 pupil and proposed love to her and she agreed.
In January 2024, the accused person invited the minor for sexual intercourse at his homestead and she accepted. They had sexual intercourse several times at the man’s homestead.
The court heard that the matter was brought to light on the 9th of April 2024 when the child’s father arrived from Mutare and he filed a police case against the accused person for having sexual intercourse with the minor several times.
The accused person pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to 24 months imprisonment of which 12 months were suspended. A further 12 months was suspended on condition that completes 420 hours of community service.
