The City of Harare says the local authority will host the Highfield Open Streets this Saturday as a way of promoting social services.

Speaking to Zim Now, City of Harare Acting Corporate Communications Manager, Innocent Ruwende, said it is the duty of the council to provide social services.

“Facilitating and providing social services is one of our functions. We are not only here to bill residents,” he said.

Ruwende added that council also promotes sport and recreation.

Harare Open Streets is a car-free space that connects communities through health, recreation, creative expression, local economic activity and alternative forms of transport.

Activities include cycle, skate, jog, dance, share books, plant a tree, clean up the streets, take care of the environment for the community, paint or simply watch the streets come to life.

Earlier this year, City of Harare hosted The Future Of Cycling in Harare on the occasion of the commemoration of World Cycle Day.
