Zimbabwe Football Association is pulling out the stops in their search for a new Warriors coach, shortlisting five foreign candidates and offering a hefty annual salary of US$150,000.
While the announcement of the new coach was anticipated this weekend, ZIFA has postponed it to conduct interviews with the shortlisted finalists tomorrow. The hopefuls include, Spaniard Gerard Nus,Veteran German Winfried Schäfer,German Michael Nees,German Antoine Hey,Brazilian Marcio and Maximo Barcellos
These five will face a panel of experts from ZIFA, FIFA, and the Confederation of African Football. Interestingly, FIFA is taking a keen interest, conducting integrity checks and even potentially footing the bill for the coach's salary.
ZIFA has also denied rumors that interviews were already completed and that Schäfer, the 74-year-old German, was chosen. However, reports suggest he might still be the frontrunner.
This coaching search has become a high-stakes affair, with ZIFA willing to invest significantly in the future of the Warriors.
The hefty salary reflects their ambition to find a top-tier coach who can lead the team to success.
