Ngezi Platinum Stars have made a significant statement of intent ahead of their maiden CAF Champions League campaign by securing the services of two of the domestic league’s brightest talents, Tinotenda Meke and Malvern Hativagoni.

The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League champions announced on Monday the acquisition of the duo, along with Tanaka Munemo and Blessed Mushonganyika, as they look to make a strong impression on the African stage.

Meke, a prodigious 18-year-old who has shone for both GreenFuel and the Zimbabwe Warriors, has been the standout performer of the season. His impressive displays at the recent COSAFA Cup have seen him linked with several top-flight clubs, but it is Ngezi who have secured his signature.

Hativagoni, another key addition, has been a consistent performer for Bulawayo Chiefs and earned his place in the Warriors squad for the COSAFA Cup.

The acquisition of these two players has sent ripples of excitement through the Ngezi Platinum Stars fanbase, with many believing that the club has assembled a formidable squad capable of challenging for continental honors.

However, the road ahead is not without its challenges. Ngezi will face AS Maniema of the Democratic Republic of Congo in the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League. Due to Zimbabwe’s lack of a CAF-certified stadium, the first leg will be played at Heroes Stadium in Lusaka, Zambia, on the weekend of August 16-18. The return leg will be held in the DRC the following week.

This will be Ngezi’s second foray into African club football, having previously represented Zimbabwe in the CAF Confederation Cup in 2017.
