Highlanders FC suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Simba Bhora in a fiercely contested Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match that was marred by controversy. The home side emerged victorious with a 2-1 scoreline, extending their unbeaten record at Wadzanai Stadium.
Bosso found themselves on the wrong end of a contentious decision when Simba Bhora equalized just before halftime. The Highlanders camp was adamant that the goal should have been disallowed for offside, sparking heated exchanges between the two teams and officials.
The tensions reached boiling point when Highlanders assistant coach Daniel Khumalo was sent off following a scuffle with the Simba Bhora bench. The incident led to a brief stoppage as the situation was brought under control.
Highlanders coach Kelvin Kaindu was visibly frustrated after the match, criticizing the officiating and suggesting that he was restricted in expressing his views. "I do not think we have lost this game," Kaindu said. "It is just unfortunate that as a coach, if you make certain comments, you are the one who is going to be punished."
In contrast, Simba Bhora coach Tonderai Ndiraya was ecstatic with his team's performance. "I am really excited we were playing one of the giants of Zimbabwe football and it gives you a great feeling as a team, as a coach to win against such a big team with a rich history," Ndiraya said.
The result sees Simba Bhora climb to second place on the log, just two points behind leaders FC Platinum. Highlanders, meanwhile, will be eager to put this setback behind them as they look to regain their momentum in the title race.
