Two rape assailants, Clemence Karuma, 27 and another 24-year-old male were on Wednesday convicted and sentenced 15 years each on separate cases, in Gweru and Penhalonga respectively.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the first mentioned assailant forcefully entered the 26-year-old complainant's room at a farm demanding a lighter to lit his cigarette which the complainant did not have. He is said to have demanded money after threatening to rape the victim and was handed US$15 and went on to rape her.

The NPAZ said, “he threatened the complainant with an iron bar, ordering her to follow his instructions. He ordered the complainant to remove her clothes before raping her once.”

In the second separate matter, the 24-year-old accused person also entered into the18-year-old complainant's room while she was asleep and locked the door before wrestling her to the ground where he raped her. The NPAZ reports that the accused person stuffed a cloth into the victim’s mouth while raping her.

“The two wrestled before the complainant fell to the ground where the accused person stuffed a piece of cloth inside the complainant’s mouth and raped her,” reads the statement.

The two assailants besides their cases being hear at different court rooms, have coincidentally been given the same sentence on the same day, for the same crime, where the facts and evidence of their crimes were also similar.
