A 36-year-old man from Chitungwiza has been handed an 80-year prison sentence after being convicted on four counts of rape.

Aaron Sanyamahwe, who resides in Unit N, Seke, was found guilty of preying on vulnerable young women by pretending to be an employment agent. He gained their trust with false job offers before subjecting them to violent sexual assaults.

The Chitungwiza Regional Magistrates’ Court sentenced him to 20 years for each charge, to be served consecutively.

Court proceedings revealed that Sanyamahwe lured his victims with promises of employment, then took them to isolated locations in Dema. There, he would blindfold them, move them to a second site, strangle them, and then commit the assaults.

The National Prosecuting Authority welcomed the harsh sentence, emphasizing that it sends a strong message that sexual violence will be met with the strictest legal consequences.
