The battle for the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title is intensifying as Simba Bhora and FC Platinum engage in a thrilling two-horse race. The top two teams are separated by just two points, with Simba Bhora currently holding a slight advantage.
Simba Bhora, based in Shamva, secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Bulawayo Chiefs on Saturday, extending their lead at the top of the standings. However, FC Platinum's hopes of reclaiming the top spot were dashed after a surprising 1-0 defeat to Bikita Minerals at Sakubva Stadium on Sunday.
Despite the slim points difference, there is little to separate Simba Bhora and FC Platinum in terms of their overall performance. Both teams have conceded 18 goals each, while FC Platinum holds a slight edge in terms of goals scored (33-30).
Highlanders remain in contention for the title, trailing the leaders by nine points with ten games left to play. Ngezi Platinum, in fourth place, have the same number of points as Highlanders but have played one fewer match.
Manica Diamonds, who finished second last season, have struggled to find their form this year and are currently languishing in fifth place. The team's inability to score goals has been a major concern.
At the bottom of the table, the relegation battle is far from over. Arenel, Chegutu Pirates, Hwange, and TelOne are all in danger of being relegated. Arenel currently sits at the bottom of the standings with 18 points, followed by Chegutu with 19 and Hwange with 20. TelOne, with 24 points, occupies the final relegation spot.
Bulawayo Chiefs, Bikita Minerals, Green Fuel, and Yadah are also still in the mix for relegation, making the battle for survival even more intense. With so much at stake, the remaining matches of the PSL season are sure to be filled with drama and excitement.
