LEAD party leader Linda Masarira has urged the late music legend Oliver Mtukudzi’s widow, Daisy, to reconsider her treatment of her stepchildren.

This follows revelations of Daisy's strained relationship with Selmor, Tuku's daughter, and Selmor's exclusion from a recent tribute event honouring her father.

Daisy has been accused of mistreating her late husband’s children, denying them access to their father’s legacy. She is also alleged to have been behind the decision to omit Selmor from her father’s tribute festival.

In a stern message, Masarira emphasised the importance of Daisy, as a woman and mother, reconciling with the Tuku family. She attributed the family's estrangement to Daisy’s treatment of the children since she married the late musician.

“The way you have treated Selmor since her father’s death is despicable and shameful. I am calling you to order today as a women's rights advocate who believes in women supporting other women, being their sisters’ keeper, and uniting families to restore the family unit, which is under threat,” Masarira wrote.

"From the video below, you can clearly see and feel the bond that Selmor had with her father. How, then, can you despise her to the extent of denying her the opportunity to commemorate her father at a festival meant to honor his memory? You married into a family that already had children, and you have taken so much away from them,” she added.

Selmor, in response to a user on her X (formerly Twitter) account, revealed that the event organisers only invited her following public backlash. She highlighted the damaging effects of divorce and second marriages, expressing disappointment in how the situation was handled.

She further said that the organisers contacted her recently, attempting to salvage some humility after their exclusionary act. She confirmed responding to their invitation via text.

The Tuku Tribute Festival will take place on September 21 to 22 at Pakare Paya Arts Center, with headliners such as Jah Prayzah, Feli Nandi and Gemma Griffiths set to perform.
