Tinotenda Nyandoro has been crowned the winner of the EU Biodiversity Photo Competition, a nationwide contest aimed at showcasing Zimbabwe’s natural beauty and raising awareness about biodiversity conservation.

The competition, organized by the European Union Delegation to Zimbabwe, saw photographers from across the country capturing images under the theme “People and Nature: A Life in Harmony.”

Nyandoro's winning photograph stood out among hundreds of submissions for its striking portrayal of Zimbabwe’s rich wildlife and the harmonious connection between nature and local communities.

For his achievement, Nyandoro has been awarded a safari trip in Zimbabwe and vouchers for photographic equipment, courtesy of Focal Point Zimbabwe.

Jared Bunga secured second place, while Harry Randell took third. Two Honourable Mentions were awarded to Kudzai Tinago and Wilson Kakurira for their outstanding contributions to the competition.

Their works will feature in the EU Biodiversity Calendar for 2025 and at a special Biodiversity Celebration Event in Mukuvisi, Harare, during the EU Green Diplomacy Weeks.

The EU Biodiversity Photo Competition aimed to emphasize the critical role communities play in conserving ecosystems.

Speaking after the announcement, an EU representative said, "There is no sustainable future without the protection of the biodiversity that communities rely on."

Nyandoro and the other winners will have their works exhibited across Zimbabwe, including in Kadoma, Gweru, and Bulawayo, as part of the EU’s effort to raise awareness about biodiversity through art and photography.
