The Reformed Church in Zimbabwe's Chitungwiza Assembly Choir is set to carry the Harare dormitory town's flag at the RCZ National Music Festival scheduled for Chivi Mission in Masvingo Province this weekend.
Slated for September 28, the festival will bring together several choirs from different RCZ centres across the country.
In an interview with Zim Now, RCZ Chitungwiza Assembly Choir leader, Munyaradzi Mazhindu, said his 30-member group had made the necessary preparations for the Chivi clash.
"We are prepared for the clash. Currently, one challenge that has remained over the years is that the number is always prone to change due to some members changing locations, especially when their families move for different reasons. However, this has never dampened our spirits," Mazhindu told Zim Now.
The choir leader said his group stands a good chance of succeeding at the festival because of the potential and zeal they exude as a group. "We are eager to learn, develop and grow and we have a track record of doing very well and producing quality music at these national festivals since 2014," he said.
Mazhindu added that it was through the guidance of the Almighty that they had gone this far.
"First and foremost, we would like to thank the Lord Almighty for taking us this far and also for the blessings he continues to shower upon us. Furthermore, we would like to thank and appreciate the Chitungwiza congregation of the Reformed Church In Zimbabwe and the leadership, including the Reverend Mhakure for the financial, moral and spiritual support they have always rendered," Mazhindu told Zim Now.
He also said they are aiming to see their choir at the top of gospel music groups in the country in their quest to spread the word of God through singing,.
"We would like to be heard all over Zimbabwe and beyond the nation's borders so that more people will get to know about Jesus Christ and be saved. This is our vision. We also hope and wish for the long-term growth of the choir as most of our members are still youthful," Mazhindu said.
While conceding that funds remained a huge challenge, Rev Mhakure said the Chitungwiza Assembly will travel to Chivi for the festival.
"God will guide us to be able to raise funds for the choir's travel. We know they will give it their best at the festival, thus putting RCZ Chitungwiza on the national map," Rev Mhakure told Zim Now.
