Head and deputy connive to leak exam paper

As investigations continue on the leak of the 2022 Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (Zimsec) “Ordinary” Level examination papers, a headmaster and his deputy at Thokozani Secondary School, Insiza District, Matabeleland South Province have been arrested on allegations of conniving to leak Zimsec examination papers.

The headmaster, Gainmore Muzezewa and Howard Zipore are due to appear before a magistrate at Filabusi Magistrates’ Court.

Zimsec recently released a statement in which they indicated that some exam paper leaks had been tracked to other players in the system. These include school heads who take custody of the papers in advance of the actual exam dates.

By end of last month over 100 candidates had been arrested for pre-accessing the exam papers and Zimsec has announced that results of convicted candidates will be nullified.

The exam council has indicated that it is unlikely to order re-writes of the compromised papers although a number of stakeholders have questioned the integrity and credibility of the 2022 exams as it is believed that leakages were more widespread than the arrests imply.
