Former Delta, African Sun chairman Chiura dies

Renowned businessman, who served as board chairman at Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE)-listed beverages concern Delta Corporation and African Sun Limited, formerly Zimbabwe Sun Limited, Enos Dengedza Chiura, has died aged 89.  

His son, Allen, who is an American board-certified consultant urological surgeon operating a private practice in Harare, confirmed the sad news of the passing on of the late iconic businessman.

Besides serving as Delta Corporation chairman, Chiura was the inaugural chairperson of Zimbabwe Sun Limited (now African Sun Limited). On that board, he worked with Patrick Rooney, Ron Stringfellow (CEO), Eric Bloch, Robbie Mupawose and Muchadeyi Ashton Masunda and together, they got Zimbabwe Sun listed on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange in April 1990.

He also served as chairperson of Central Africa Building Society (CABS); Merchant Bank of Central Africa Limited (MBCA); and National Social Security Authority (NSSA).

An alumnus of Georgetown University in Washington DC, the late Chiura also served Institute of Directors Zimbabwe.

The late Chiura was well-known for his passion for the sustainable development of Zimbabwe.
