The judgment in the case of Jameson Timba and 66 activists from the Citizens Coalition for Change has been postponed yet again, now expected on November 15.
The decision was originally anticipated on Monday but was delayed due to the absence of Magistrate Collet Ncube, who was set to preside over the case.
Magistrate Donald Ndirowei informed the court of the postponement, announcing the new date for the ruling.
The activists, including Timba, were arrested in June while attending a gathering to commemorate the Day of the African Child in Harare. They have since faced charges of allegedly participating in an unlawful gathering. Despite multiple attempts by their legal team, the activists have been denied bail three times and have remained in detention under conditions described as “inhabitable” by human rights defenders.
Darlington Chigumbu, CCC’s Secretary for Information and Publicity, expressed frustration over the repeated delays, calling it “a clear case of justice delayed is justice denied.”
He said the detentions were politically motivated, stating, “They should not be in jail in the first place. They know these individuals did not commit a crime.”
Initially, 80 people were implicated, but 12 individuals, including Timba’s son, Sean, were discharged when the State presented its case. Although the activists were acquitted on disorderly conduct charges, they still await a judgment on the remaining allegations.
