Zimbabwean boxer Aliyah Phiri has been suspended for one year after testing positive for a banned substance. The 24-year-old lightweight boxer was stripped of his African Boxing Union title following the positive test result.
Phiri tested positive for Furosemide, a diuretic that can be used to mask the use of other performance-enhancing drugs. The Zimbabwe Olympic Committee confirmed the suspension and the subsequent disqualification of all results obtained since March 22, 2024.
ZOC stated that Phiri had accepted the charges and the consequences of his actions. As a result, his suspension period was reduced by one year.
