Ngonidzashe Kumbulani, 34, of Budiriro 5B, appeared before Harare Magistrate Dennis Mangosi facing murder charges after allegedly assaulting a man to death over a stolen phone.
Prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi told the court that the incident occurred on August 9, 2024, at Roflex Bottle Store, Current Shopping Centre in Budiriro 4.
The now-deceased man was drinking beer when his phone was reportedly stolen. He suspected Kumbulani and his accomplices, which allegedly led to a violent confrontation.
Kumbulani and his accomplices, who remain at large, reportedly attacked the man with sharp objects, leaving him unconscious. They fled the scene as the victim collapsed.
The bottle store owner alerted the police, and the injured man was taken to the hospital by officers from ZRP Budiriro. He succumbed to his injuries upon admission.
Kumbulani was arrested on October 24, 2024, following police investigations. He has been advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
