Delta Beverages celebrated excellence in road safety and driver performance at the 2024 Delta Driver of the Year Awards held at the Delta Driver Training School in Ruwa on Friday. The event recognized outstanding drivers and forklift operators who have demonstrated exceptional skills and commitment to safety.
Joseph Mundiya from the Freight Department at Granite Side, Harare, was honored as Driver of the Year 2024, while Godfrey Ratambwa was named Forklift Operator of the Year 2024.
In an interview with Zim Now, Mundiya expressed his excitement and deep gratitude for the recognition from Delta Beverages. "I am very happy, and I thank Delta Beverages for this special award," Mundiya said. "I encourage my fellow drivers to drive with caution on the road to reduce accidents."
The guest speaker, Mr. Sango, delivered remarks on behalf of Engineer Joy Makumbe, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development. In her message, Engineer Makumbe praised Delta Beverages for its commitment to road safety and driver development.
"Through initiatives like this, Delta has made a significant impact in reducing accidents and promoting responsible driving practices," Engineer Makumbe said. She also applauded the competition's expansion to include light motor vehicle drivers, which will further enhance road safety across the nation.
Noting the 51% reduction in heavy motor vehicle accidents over the past year, she emphasized the effectiveness of the program. "The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development remains committed to working with Delta Beverages and key stakeholders to reduce road traffic accidents and fatalities," she stated.
In conclusion, Engineer Makumbe's message encouraged all drivers to continue prioritizing safety: "The road to a safer Zimbabwe is paved with awareness, caution, and respect for the lives of others. Let us all strive for a brighter, safer, and accident-free future."
Driver Development Manager Michael Zuze delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks at the close of the event. He expressed gratitude to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Delta Beverages, the award winners, instructors, stakeholders, ITrack, and all distinguished guests.
"Thank you for your continued support in promoting road safety and the success of the Delta Driver of the Year Awards," Zuze said. His message reinforced the collective effort required to achieve safer roads in Zimbabwe.
