A 32-year-old man, Terrence Moyo, has been arraigned before the Harare Magistrates’ Courts on charges of unlawful entry and theft involving US$16 000 in cash and other valuables.

The State, represented by prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi, alleges that Moyo unlawfully entered a property in Mabelreign, Harare, on December 8, 2024. The property, located at number 18 Mason Avenue, Cotsworld Hills, was unoccupied at the time.

According to the charges, Moyo forcibly opened the kitchen door, gained entry, and ransacked the house. He reportedly made off with US$16,000 in cash, two Samsung phones (including a Samsung M31 model), and an HP laptop belonging to the homeowner, Zuvarashe Constance Samuwi.

The crime was discovered later that day around 4:15 PM when the housemaid, Ruby Nyamukasa, returned home and noticed the break-in. A police report was promptly filed.

Detectives investigating the matter traced one of the stolen phones to a man named Layson Mashayanyika, who admitted to acquiring the device. The phone was subsequently recovered, and further investigations led to Moyo's arrest on January 7, 2025.

The complainant positively identified the recovered phone. The total value of stolen property and cash was estimated at US$17 300.

Moyo remains in custody as investigations continue.
