Another minor, this time a 13-year-old girl, was raped in Unit D, Seke, in Chitungwiza as cases involving sex with a minor continue to rise.
This comes as a nine-year-old girl from Thsolotsho turned into a mother a week ago after giving birth at United Bulawayo Hospitals through Caesarean section. It has since emerged that the girl’s 13-year-old cousin brother is the father of the child following Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) obtained from National University of Science and Technology (NUST). The girl fell pregnant after being repeatedly raped.
With the Chitungwiza case, the suspect is yet to be arrested.
Confirming the case, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said on their official Twitter handle: “The ZRP is investigating a case of rape in which a 13-year-old girl was raped in July 2022 at a workshop in Unit D, Seke, Chitungwiza. The girl was medically examined and it was established that she is three months’ pregnant. The suspect has not been arrested.”
Also recently, a nine-year-old from Kambira Village in Bindura, who is currently admitted at Bindura District Hospital under the care of the Social Development Department, is reportedly six months’ pregnant after being raped.
The initial suspects, two 17-year-old boys, denied the charges and authorities have said DNA tests on the yet-to-be-born child will be used to determine the paternity of the child.
