A Glen Norah man is facing theft charges after allegedly selling a car that was supposed to undergo a spiritual cleansing.

Tatenda Kabende, 30, appeared before the Harare Magistrates' Courts accused of selling the vehicle without the owner's consent.

According to the State, on January 3, Kabende convinced the complainant to hand over the vehicle, claiming it needed to be cleansed of evil spirits. The car was then taken to Kabende’s alleged accomplice's residence in Parktown, Waterfalls, Harare.

Instead of undergoing the purported ritual, the car was sold without the owner’s knowledge, resulting in a loss of US$8,000.

Kabende is set to appear in court again on February 13, 2025.
