Ming Chang Sino-Africa Mining Investments has provided a detailed account of the events surrounding the viral incident at Bijou Farm in Gweru on January 21, 2025.

According to the company, excavator operator Kholwani Dube stabbed farm manager Liu Haifeng in the leg during a physical altercation, following a series of dangerous actions.

Ming Chang said Dube is currently in police custody, while Liu Haifeng received medical treatment for his injuries.

The police have not yet issued a statement on the incident.

In its statement, the company outlined the sequence of events, beginning with Dube allegedly disregarding multiple instructions from his supervisors on a construction site earlier in the day.

"Mr. Dube was warned and subsequently suspended from his duties pending a formal investigation into the matter," the statement read.

The situation escalated when Dube reportedly seized keys to an excavator and drove it toward supervisors Mr. Hu and Mr. Chen in what was described as a threatening manner.

In the videos circulating Dube can be heard demanding his money while staff members look on while he drives the excavator towards the Chinese men.

"Despite their efforts to intervene safely, Mr. Dube's actions necessitated immediate reporting to the Farm Manager, Mr. Liu Haifeng, and his deputy, Mr. Huo Haopeng," the company said.

Dube then attempted to run over Liu Haifeng with the excavator paying no heed to other employees in the vicinity.

Liu Haifeng responded by firing a warning shot into the air, while Huo Haopeng contacted Gweru Rural Police Station for assistance. However, police were unable to respond immediately due to transport challenges.

The company stated that during this time, Dube launched a physical attack on Liu Haifeng, which resulted in a fistfight.

"Dube stabbed and seriously injured Liu Haifeng in his left leg," the statement said, adding that fellow employees disarmed Dube and took him to the police.

The videos circulating on social media do not capture Dube exiting the excavator and attacking Liu but moves to a point when Dube is physically restrained by several staff members with a Chinese staffer holding a gun to Dube’s head while an injured Liu sits on the ground with his blood flowing.

The company emphasized that no one else was injured during the incident and reiterated its commitment to following legal procedures and best practices in handling conflicts.

The company called on the media to verify facts before reporting and urged the public to avoid spreading misinformation.
