A 56-year-old man who allegedly hired a car using a fake identity and sold it has been arrested.
Givemore Mesoemvura appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Courts facing fraud charges. He is set to return to court on February 2.
The State alleges that in December 2023, Mesoemvura approached Wishtec Car Rental at 4066 Cleverland Road, Milton Park, Harare, and hired a Honda Fit for four days using false credentials under the name Jeremani Trymore Masimba.
He allegedly sold the vehicle to Smart Chidzomba using fraudulent documents. Chidzomba later discovered the scam and filed a report at ZRP Milton Park.
On February 1, 2025, while in Harare CBD, Chidzomba spotted Mesoemvura and alerted the police, leading to his arrest.
The stolen vehicle, valued at US$4,700, was reportedly recovered.
