Police are appealing to the public for leads to identify a group of men who filmed themselves while assaulting another man and shared the video on social media.
“The ZRP confirms that investigations are being conducted in connection with an assault video which has gone viral on the social media platforms where a man identified as Mutsipa is being severely assaulted by Baba Joy and others. Mutsipa had allegedly been caught with his best friend’s wife,” said the police in a statement.
In the clip that Zim Now has seen, the camera only focuses on the victim with only the hands of the assailants occasionally appearing in the frame.
Mutsipa appears to have been badly beaten in the video with the unknown number of men demanding that he comes clean about his affair with Mai Joy, wife to one of the men.

Baba Joy appears to have been in police custody prior to the assault, at the time that Mutsipa and Mai Joy hooked up.
He asks if Mutsipa is the one who arranged for his arrest and if Mutsipa has been the instigator of the marital strife in his home.
One accomplice whose voice is clearly audible appears to be a younger brother to Baba Joy, the cuckolded and vengeful husband.
That accomplice refers to Mai Joy as “maiguru” presumably the wife of his older brother.
The badly beaten Mutsipa seems to confess to the affair while claiming that it is Mai Joy who came onto him.
Mutsipa says that Mai Joy told him that she had started developing feelings for him (Mutsipa) after Baba Joy kept on alleging that Mai Joy and Mutsipa had an affair going.
Videos of people carrying out vigilante justice - especially in matters of the heart- are often shared on social media platforms with the intent of slut shaming those caught out.
Both men and women are victimised through being filmed naked and or at the receiving end of violence.
The police have indicated that they will deal with culprits.
“The ZRP urges the public not to take the law onto their hands if wronged by another person but to report and follow the due process of the law to get redress,” said the police.
A legal expert who spoke to Zim Now and chose anonymity for professional reasons said that assailants like Baba Joy can face a host of charges if arrested.
“First there is the assault itself, whereby they have foolishly recorded evidence incriminating themselves and put it in the public domain. Depending on where the assault took place and how the victim got there, there might also be a kidnapping charge.
“The recording and sharing of the video in themselves can also lead to separate charges under the Cyber And Data Protection Act as there is clear intent to ‘bully or cause substantial emotional distress, or to degrade, humiliate or demean the person’ of Mutsipa by recording and sharing this video,” said the legal expert.
